I went to the movies tonight, and I've been very moved by this film. Of course , a Clint Eastwood movie is a good signature, but I have to admit it's really well done. The fact that this story is true adds to the way you feel it of course.
This film moved me probably cause it's about a rap of child, more, about murder of children and serial killer. It's about a time we don't know no more, I hope, because the way human beings were treated at that time is psychiatric hospitals is terrifying. It's also about a fight for justice, coming from a mother, a women. As you can see, M. Eastwood put together lots of ingredients that lead to a special film.
That was also the first movie I saw with Angelina Jolie. That woman wears her name very well. "jolie" means pretty in french and she's a "jolie femme" in that film. Pretty of course, but also courageous, enraged if I can say, to recover her son and make things change for more justice. What a women ! At that time it was far more difficult to be courageous for a women than today, but the loss of one's son makes a woman change, because she's lost all she had. That's what Mrs Collins (the character of Angelina Jolie) says once in the movie : "they (the police) have nothing" to scare her anymore. She's ready to go ahead till the end.
That film made me also think that Americans are changing. Setptember 11 must be the biggest element of that change, but probably the politics they've had for the last years too. Fed up with politics... Fed up with those movies where their country was the country of the good ones. In this movie, the political and police institutions are described as corrputed. And if there is a policman to go ahead trying to find the thruth alone, he's not filmed as a hero, as he may have been before spetember 11. I'm terribly sad of course of what happened that day, but I'm glad to see this change of point of view from Americans. I'm glad movies like this can be successful, that describe things as they are : some beautiful (that women, fighting for justice, helped by this pastor and the policeman dooing its best to discover truth), some ugly (the political and police corruption). I guess anyone can find the same in its own counrty. It seems to be inherent to every society : some are good, some are bad, and its courageous to put it on screens.
Thus, thank you M. Eastwood to have the courage to deal with such a subject, thak you M. and Mrs the actors to hold the film the way you do !
A last word : rush to that movie but keep children off the screen, I'm not sure they would understand the reactions of that mother, nor the behavior of the "false son"...
